This rug is a fine example of contemporary weaving from the Kurdish area of western Iran. This type of rug is woven in the Bijar vicinity and they are characterized by tight knotting, intricate design and clear, true colors that combine to produce a rug of extraordinary beauty and durability. Araby Rug carries many rugs of this exemplary type from scatter sizes to oversizes.
The Bahktiari of the Zagros Mountains are one of Iran's major tribal groups. Their rugs are characterized by bold designs and rich colors. This rug has an especially powerful design, despite its smaller size. This rug dates from the immediate post-WWII era, and it is in mint condition. It is an authentic tribal weaving and a nice addition to any home.
This cheerful tribal kilim was woven in northern Afghanistan by Uzbek weavers. The wool is handspun and the dyes are vegetal. This contemporary flatweave has a simple elegance that belies its practicality and value.

We are very proud to offer our Bin Koy or "Thousand Villages" kilims. These flatweaves are custom-made for us in the Konya area of Turkey. Only the finest wools and natural dyes are used, and the creative spirit of the weaver is fully encouraged in design development. Please contact us for information on sizes and other designs.
This namazlik, or prayer kilim, was woven in Kutahya, an ancient weaving and artistic center in western Anatolia. The wool is handspun and the dyes are vegetal. The uncluttered design and deeply saturated colors combined with a finer than average weave give this kilim a true presence. It is equally well-suited for floor use or as a wall hanging.
From the far east of Anatolia comes this older kilim. Van kilims are characterized by design, color and technique that are not found anywhere else in the region. This Tabriz rug represents the very finest in contemporary Persian weaving. From the age-old weaving city of Tabriz, this piece has a weave of 450+ knots per square inch. The pile is wool with substantial silk highlighting knotted into a silk foundation. The design of this piece is called sonbad, or "done". The effect is the same as tilting one's neck and looking into the splendidly designed dome of a Persian mosque. This Tabriz is truly an exquisite rug.

Goltagh Bijars are a distinctive category group of the larger Bijar weaving group. These rugs are generally much more tribal and geometric in feel than other types of Bijars, with a liberal use of animal figures and other naturalistic motifs. Although only available in limited sizes, Goltoghs are tough, beautiful examples of Persian weaving.
The rugs of Josheghan in central Iran are thought to represent the largest continuously produced design group in Persian weaving. They are noted for their fine weave, supple handle and velvety wool. Colors are traditional but the creativity of the weavers constantly brings freshness to their rugs. White-ground examples such as this are among the rarest of all Joshegans.
